Kuna sits at the southern edge of Ada County, where the farmland and desert terrain of the Snake River Plain begin to give way to suburban residential development. The city has grown considerably since 2010, and the housing stock reflects two distinct eras: the older, smaller homes near Downtown Kuna, some dating to the 1960s and 1970s, and the newer subdivisions that spread south and east along Kuna Road, Linder Road, and Meridian Road over the past fifteen years.
The older Downtown Kuna homes are the ones most likely to have masonry chimneys that have not been inspected recently. These are wood-burning chimneys, typically with a single flue, and the age of the structure means creosote has had decades to accumulate in layers. Third-degree creosote, the glazed tar form that requires special treatment beyond a standard brush cleaning, is more common in older flues that have had inconsistent maintenance. We identify the creosote type on every chimney call and price the job accordingly.
The newer subdivisions in Desert Wind, Bear Creek, and the Pleasant Valley area south of I-84 are homes built primarily in the 2005 to 2015 range. These homes often have gas fireplaces with factory-built chimneys rather than masonry construction. Factory-built metal chimneys are not swept the same way as masonry - the inspection focuses on the liner integrity, the chimney cap condition, and the gas valve assembly rather than creosote removal.
Kuna’s location near Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge and the open farmland along Swan Falls Road means birds and small wildlife are an occasional presence in chimney caps. We include a cap inspection on every Kuna chimney call and can install a stainless steel cap same-day if the existing cap is missing or damaged.
