Dryer Vent Service

Dryer Vent Inspection, Boise and Surrounding Cities

We check the full duct run for material, bends, run length, cap condition, and airflow - the inspection that tells you whether a cleaning is enough or a reroute is needed.

Inspection $49 - waived when cleaning booked same day

The Inspection Process

We Look at
Everything.

Duct Material and Path

We trace the full duct run from the dryer wall connection to the exterior cap, noting every segment: rigid aluminum, flexible aluminum foil, or plastic flex. We count every bend and classify it as 45-degree or 90-degree to calculate the total equivalent length against the International Mechanical Code 25-foot maximum.

Cap and Termination Check

We check the exterior cap location, clearance from the ground and from any openings in the building, the flap operation under live dryer exhaust, and whether the cap design is appropriate for the climate. A bird-nest cap or a cage-style cap that catches lint is a restriction that no amount of cleaning fully fixes.

Airflow Test and Report

We run the dryer and test airflow at the exterior cap. If the restriction is a lint buildup, a cleaning will solve it and we can do it the same day. If the restriction is the duct path itself - too many bends, wrong material, oversized run - we tell you what rerouting would involve and what it costs before any work starts.

Code Knowledge Matters

Most Installations
Have at Least One Issue.

The International Mechanical Code allows 25 feet of rigid smooth-wall duct, reduced by 5 feet for each 90-degree bend and 2.5 feet for each 45-degree bend. A typical two-story home with the laundry on the second floor and the duct running horizontally to a side-wall exit can hit that limit before the installer adds any vertical runs. Add a flexible transition duct with its own folds and you are often over the limit on day one.

Knowing the IMC limits is not the same as knowing how to measure them. We do the calculation on-site and give you the number. If the run is over the limit, a cleaning will improve airflow, but it will not solve the underlying restriction. We tell you that clearly.

What does a dryer vent inspection check?

The inspection covers the full duct run from the dryer connection to the exterior cap: duct material (rigid vs. flex, metal vs. plastic), number and type of bends, total run length, lint accumulation, connection integrity at each joint, exterior cap condition and clearance from the ground, and any signs of moisture or pest intrusion.

What is the maximum length for a dryer vent duct?

The International Mechanical Code sets the base maximum at 25 feet for rigid smooth-wall duct, reduced by 5 feet for each 90-degree turn. Each 45-degree turn counts as 2.5 feet. Many installations exceed these limits, particularly in two-story homes. A duct run that is too long or has too many bends will not exhaust efficiently even when clean.

Does my dryer vent need an inspection if it was just installed?

New installations get things wrong more often than you would expect. A duct run that uses plastic flex duct, has too many bends, exceeds the length limits in the International Mechanical Code, or terminates too close to a window or door is a hazard from day one. A first inspection after installation confirms the work was done to code. It also establishes a baseline so you know what changed at future cleaning visits.

How is a dryer vent inspection different from the check that comes with cleaning?

The cleaning visit includes a basic look at the cap and the transition duct. A dedicated inspection is more thorough: we measure the total run length, count and categorize every bend, assess the duct material at each segment, check clearances at the exterior termination, and test airflow with and without the dryer running. If we find problems, you get a written report with the specific issue and what fixing it would involve.
